The Science of the Romper

Recently it has become apparent to me that there is one single article of chothing that is radically underused and underrated. This article of clothing is a Romper. In defanition, a romper is a one-piece jumper or short pant that combines the great elements of a gathered or fitted shirt with a high or low waist pant or skirt or short pant. Here are some examples [via Modcoth.com]

Here's a vintage-inspired daisy print romper. Ooo, so indie retro!

This one's got drapey qualities for those of us with larger busts and the shorts are cute with the little pockets.

This romper's one of the more fitted I've found. Which means you better make sure you fit into it before you buy, and if it does fit you you'll love it till you grouw out of it!

Thisis another fitted romper, this time with princess seams and buttons and little spaghetti straps.

This is one of those flowy, flowery gathered blouses, and the fitted shorts mke it look formal without being stuffy.

Look at the assymetrical neckline, and the off-shoulder! The pockets are adorable and that waistband looks a little out of place with something that looks so formal otherwise, but it's all good.

Rompers in thier indie, retro, unappreciated, adorable entirity remind me of the music of Bright Eyes. They've got this one song "First Day Of My Life" that I think shoud've been way more popular than it was. It goes something like this:
This is the first day of my life
I swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach

Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don’t know where I am
I don’t know where I’ve been
But I know where I want to go

And so I thought I’d let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realize that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange you said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said “this is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy”

So if you want to be with me
With these things there’s no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I’d rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides maybe this time is different
I mean I really think you like me
So that's all. Oh yeah, and I'll have some pictures of my hats up soon, done by my artistic friend Kristen. =]
